Files stay in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.

Why compress images?

Smaller image files mean faster web pages, lower bandwidth bills, and smoother social posts. Modern image formats already use compression, but cameras and editing apps tend to store at far higher quality than viewers can perceive. A 5 MB photo can usually be reduced to 500 KB without anyone noticing.

How it works

imglover decodes your image natively in the browser, then re-encodes it with a WebAssembly version of mozjpeg (for JPEG) or libwebp (for WebP) at the quality you choose. Nothing is sent to a server — open the Network tab to verify.

Frequently asked questions

Will compression hurt image quality?
A small amount, yes — that is the trade-off for smaller files. The default quality of 85 produces files around half the size of the original with almost no visible difference. Lower the slider further if size matters more than fidelity.
Is the original file uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs in your browser via WebAssembly (mozjpeg / libwebp / oxipng-style encoders). The bytes never leave your device.
Which formats are supported?
JPEG, PNG, and WebP. Output keeps the source format by default. To change format use the dedicated PNG→JPG or WebP→JPG tools.
Can I compress a bunch of files at once?
Yes. Drop or pick multiple files; each one is processed in turn and downloads individually.
Why is my PNG barely smaller?
PNG is lossless. Compression here is mostly about removing redundant data and palette optimisation. For real size reduction on PNG, convert to JPG or WebP if transparency is not needed.
